HALOGEN LAMP COOLING TOWER |
CHALLENGE: A halogen lamp manufacturer had a process which heat-fused the glass lenses of the lamps to the lamp bodies. They needed a process for the long controlled cooling of the lamps before they went to the next process. The cycle time of the line was only a few seconds. Transfer of the lamps to and from this process was to be accomplished with robots. |

SOLUTION:
The cooling process itself is accomplished by holding the lamps in closed bucket carriers attached to a long serpentine chain. The chain is indexed every few seconds to match the cycle time of the line. In the areas where the robots load and unload the lamps, mechanical devices chain-driven by the main indexer cam the lids of the buckets open and closed during the dwell time of the indexer. |
